Trinidad and Tobago’s Olympic journey kicked off on July 29 as swimmer Zuri Ferguson took on the women’s 100m backstroke. In a thrilling display, the 17-year-old Attleboro High School student secured third place in heat two with a time of 1.02.76.

Despite her impressive performance, Ferguson narrowly missed the cut for the semifinals. Only the top 16 swimmers out of 38 advanced to the next stage. The action will continue with semifinal one and two scheduled for 2.57 and 3.03 pm TT time on July 29.

Securing her spot at the Olympics wasn’t a walk in the park for Ferguson. Thanks to a nomination from World Aquatics, she was able to compete through the universality places clause. This exceptional opportunity allows swimmers who didn’t meet the Olympic qualifying time to showcase their skills on the biggest stage.

Joining Ferguson in representing Trinidad and Tobago at the Olympic Games in Paris is the seasoned competitor Dylan Carter. Carter is gearing up to compete in the men’s 50m and 100m freestyle events, set to begin on July 30.
