In a surprising turn of events, Zoë Kravitz has made a bold decision regarding her directorial debut. Originally titled Pussy Island, the thriller is now officially called Blink Twice and is set to hit theaters on August 23. The star-studded cast includes her fiancé Channing Tatum, along with Naomi Ackie, Alia Shawkat, Adria Arjona, and more.

Kravitz opened up about the name change in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, revealing, “It was made very clear to me that ‘p—y’ is a word that we, our society, are not ready to embrace yet.” The road to renaming the film wasn’t easy, with obstacles like the MPAA’s reluctance to display the title on promotional materials, and movie theaters hesitating to put it on tickets.

It turns out that the previous title was deterring women from watching the movie. Kravitz shared, “Interestingly enough, after researching it, women were offended by the word, and women seeing the title were saying, ‘I don’t want to see that movie.'” Despite her initial intentions to reclaim the word, Kravitz recognized the importance of listening to audience feedback and decided to make the change.

Blink Twice, co-written by Kravitz herself, follows a billionaire (Tatum) who invites friends to a mysterious private island, including a cocktail waitress from Los Angeles (Ackie). The film promises suspense and intrigue, offering a unique perspective on societal norms and expectations.

This decision marks a significant shift for Kravitz, who initially defended the provocative title as emblematic of a bygone era. However, her willingness to adapt and respond to audience concerns demonstrates a commitment to engaging with and respecting viewers’ preferences.

Don’t miss Blink Twice when it hits theaters on August 23, and join Kravitz on this thrilling cinematic journey.
