Introducing the Vaio Vision Plus 14: The Latest Innovation in Portable Monitors

Get ready, tech enthusiasts – the Vaio Vision Plus 14 is hitting the market today in Japan, boasting a stunning 14-inch, 1920 x 1200 USB-C monitor that weighs a mere 0.72 pounds. That’s less than half the weight of most portable monitors on the market, including the 13.3-inch Asus ZenScreen OLED MQ13AH. And despite its larger screen size, the Vaio is notably lighter.

But it’s not just about weight – the Vaio is also impressively thin, measuring just 12.4mm at its widest point and a mere 3.9mm at its thinnest. How did Vaio achieve this lightweight design? By incorporating a skeletal design with a kickstand and side profile that’s as sleek as it is practical, and molding the back panel out of carbon fiber to reduce weight without compromising rigidity.

Vaio isn’t just focused on aesthetics, though. The company claims that the Vision has been rigorously tested at its facility in Japan to withstand drops, bends, and years of use, ensuring durability and longevity. Plus, with an origami-style stand cover that allows you to elevate the monitor above your laptop, it’s as functional as it is stylish.

And when it comes to power, the Vaio won’t let you down. You can easily power the monitor from your laptop with a single included USB-C cable, or connect a 65W or higher USB-C PD power supply to charge your laptop simultaneously. With a low power consumption of about 4W in use and the ability to pass through up to 60W to your laptop, the Vaio is as efficient as it is powerful.

However, there are some unknowns when it comes to picture quality. Vaio doesn’t specify the type of panel used in the Vision, and while it does cover 100 percent of the sRGB color spectrum, graphics professionals may find this limited. Additionally, the antiglare screen only offers 400 nits of brightness, which may not be ideal for outdoor use.

For those eager to get their hands on this cutting-edge portable monitor, the Vaio Vision Plus 14 is currently on sale in Japan for 54,800 yen (approximately $339) and will be shipping this week. While Vaio hasn’t announced plans for international availability yet, tech enthusiasts around the world can only hope that this innovative monitor will soon make its way to their shores.
