Tobago is getting ready to host its third annual October carnival, and excitement is building as Army J’Ouvert teams up with Countrie Bookie and Showtime Carnival to kick off five days of events on July 27 in Crown Point.

The lineup includes Army Fete, an ultra-premium J’Ouvert called Camp Black Rock, an all-inclusive Glow Mas named Illumi nation – Tobagoglow, a parade of the bands called Colours of Crusoe Isle, and a cooler cool down event dubbed Hasta La Vista.

Kevon Ottley, the bandleader of Army J’Ouvert, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming festivities. He mentioned that registration has not yet begun, but there has been a lot of interest in the events. Ottley emphasized the importance of launching first to provide transparent information to potential participants before starting registrations.

President of the Tobago October Carnival Association, Dexter Sandy, noted a significant increase in interest for this year’s celebration. He highlighted the active marketing efforts of both local and Trinidadian bands to promote their various sections for J’Ouvert, pretty mas, and night mas.

Transportation to and from the island is also a key consideration for attendees. The availability of seats on the ferry service and Caribbean Airlines is being closely monitored, with hopes for increased capacity to accommodate the influx of carnival-goers.

President of the Tobago Promoters Association (TPA) Kevon McKenna assured that they are fully prepared for the carnival. Two out of three editions of their calendar of events have been introduced, in collaboration with other stakeholders to ensure an inclusive and engaging carnival experience for all.

Several mas bands have already launched their costumes and are gearing up for the festivities. Jade Monkey Mas, Zain Carnival, and Fog Angels are some of the bands offering unique themes for their sections, enticing masqueraders to join in the celebrations.

Erlan Clarke, bandleader of Zain Carnival, expressed his excitement at the return of more clients this year, including international attendees from as far as France. Despite some transportation challenges, Clarke remains optimistic about the eco-friendly and sustainable approach they have taken with their costumes.

Fog Angels, the island’s largest mas band, has also begun registration for their band Cocktails and Bacchanal. Bandleader Tele Cruz shared their commitment to creating an unforgettable carnival experience for all participants, emphasizing the attention to detail in costume designs and event planning.

Overall, Tobago Carnival is set to take place from October 25-27, promising a vibrant and exciting celebration for locals and visitors alike.
