Acting Sgt Ravi Maharaj, supervisor of towing operations in the city, reported that since wrecking resumed in Port of Spain a little over three weeks ago, 208 vehicles have been towed and 25 fixed-penalty tickets have been issued. The initiative has led to improved obedience in parking among citizens and a reduction in congestion on the streets.
Mayor Chinua Alleyne emphasized the importance of parking enforcement during a rainy impound event on May 29, stating that it was a significant achievement for the city council. The mayor highlighted the necessity of resuming wrecking as the city prepared for the rainy season, ensuring that emergency vehicles could move freely.
Maharaj expressed satisfaction with the smooth operation of wrecking and the cooperation of the public in retrieving their vehicles. He also warned residents about parking violations in specific areas on Friday and Saturday nights, stressing the importance of not obstructing driveways or footpaths.
