Hold onto your hats, folks, because this weekend’s travel plans are about to hit a major bump in the road! Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to face delays as three out of 10 French high-speed trains are set to be cancelled on Saturday. Why, you may ask? Well, it seems a series of “co-ordinated” arson attacks have thrown a wrench in the works, paralysing rail networks just in time for the Olympic Games.

French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal is on the case, vowing to track down the “saboteurs” responsible for this mess. But in the meantime, brace yourselves for delays of up to two hours on major train lines in and out of Paris, with a quarter of Eurostar services also biting the dust.

Fear not, though! France’s transport minister promises services will be back to normal by Monday morning. As for the culprits behind this chaos? Mum’s the word, as no one has stepped forward to claim responsibility for the damage.

But hey, let’s give credit where it’s due – rail workers are pulling out all the stops to fix the mess, working through the night in less-than-ideal conditions to repair the damage. Kudos to them!

In the meantime, grab a cup of coffee, sit tight, and maybe consider postponing that weekend getaway. With disruption expected to last until Monday, it looks like we’re all in for a bumpy ride. Even Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer had to switch up his plans, opting to fly instead of taking the train to the Games’ opening ceremony. Talk about a plot twist!
