Florida’s Space Coast is buzzing with excitement as SpaceX gears up to launch its massive Starship rocket, but not everyone is on board with the plans. United Launch Alliance and Blue Origin have raised concerns about the potential impact of Starship operations on their own activities in the area, urging the federal government to consider limitations on SpaceX’s launches and landings.

Elon Musk, the mastermind behind SpaceX, fired back at Blue Origin, calling their filing with the FAA “disingenuous.” The battle for space dominance is heating up, and it’s not just happening among the stars.

Environmental impact assessments are underway for Starship launches from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center and Space Launch Complex 37 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The reviews won’t be complete until at least 2025, giving SpaceX some time to prepare their launch infrastructure and gear up for what could be as many as 120 launches per year.

The sheer size and power of the Starship rocket have raised concerns about its environmental impact, as well as the potential safety hazards for neighboring launch pads. United Launch Alliance worries about the proximity of their Vulcan and Atlas V rocket launch pad to SpaceX’s operations, fearing that it could impact their ability to launch critical national security satellites for the US military.

As SpaceX races to achieve its goals of launching Starlink satellites, customer payloads, and supporting NASA’s Artemis lunar landings, the stage is set for a high-stakes battle for control of the skies. Stay tuned as the drama unfolds in Florida’s space race.
