Leaders of the National Transformation Alliance (NTA), Congress of the People and HOPE (Honesty Opportunity Performance Empowerment) recently made a joint appearance at an event commemorating the memorial of the 1990 attempted coup. However, this does not confirm the formation of an alliance for next year’s general election. The possibility of such an alliance is still being considered by the three parties.

NTA leader Gary Griffith, COP interim leader Kirt Sinnette, and HOPE leader Timothy Hamel-Smith shared their perspectives on the matter. While they attended the memorial together, they clarified that their presence did not signify an official alliance between their parties.

Griffith emphasized the importance of transforming Trinidad and Tobago by prioritizing good governance through a collaborative effort involving different political parties. He highlighted the need for a common principle that leads to the country’s transformation, focusing on key areas like national security, health, education, economy, and energy.

Griffith also stressed the importance of mutual respect among political parties, noting that past failed coalitions, like the National Alliance for Reconstruction and the People’s Partnership, lacked this crucial element. He emphasized the necessity of shared principles for good governance, rather than solely focusing on gaining power.

The leaders also expressed their commitment to working together to develop a common set of policies for governance and a shared vision for the country. They are optimistic that their discussions will result in a strong political force that can make an impact in the next general election.

While the three parties are collaborating on specific events and have been engaged in productive discussions, the exact form of their potential alliance is still in development. They are dedicated to creating a political force that will be taken seriously in the upcoming election.
