A tragic incident occurred in Mayaro as a young farmer, Valmiki Singh, succumbed to his injuries after being found with multiple chop wounds in the early hours of July 1st. The 25-year-old was discovered in a bush near his home in Stone Brite Village, prompting a swift response from the Mayaro police station after a concerned villager heard his dogs barking at the bottom of a hill.
Despite efforts to save him, Singh was pronounced dead at the Mayaro District Health Facility shortly after 4.30 am. The authorities are now preparing for an autopsy at the Forensic Science Centre in St. James to determine the full extent of his injuries.
The Eastern Division police, along with members of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region II, are actively investigating the case. Despite their efforts, a motive for the attack remains unclear and no arrests have been made thus far. The community is in shock as they grapple with the loss of a young member, leaving many questions unanswered as the investigation continues.
