Mason Hall Track champions dominated by Cougars

The COUGARS Athletic Club of Trinidad dominated the Mason Hall Police Youth Club Juvenile Track Classic III at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet on July 14. Led by head coach Kelvin Nancoo, Cougars took home the $10,000 championship prize with an impressive total of 330 points from 28 events.

Star performers Naomi Phillips and Seth Sylvester led the charge for the champions. Phillips displayed her speed by winning the girls Under-9 80m event in 10.97 seconds and the 150m event in 20.28. Sylvester contributed to his team’s success with victories in the 400m (59.02) and the 200m (25.76).

Nancoo was awarded the coach of the meet after Cougars secured 13 gold medals and finished at the top of the medal standings. Expressing his satisfaction with the team’s performance, Nancoo praised the organization of the event and confirmed that Cougars will definitely return next year.

Defending champions Zenith Athletic Club had to settle for second place with 289 points, receiving $5,000. Xiah Tobias stood out for Zenith winning the girls Under-13 100m (12.33) and the 200m (25.55) events.

In third place was Burnley Athletic Club of Trinidad, awarded $4,000, with Nickel Gill winning the boys Under-15 400m (22.70). Memphis Athletic Club (Trinidad) followed in fourth, taking home $3,000, with Josiah Kaiten winning the boys Under-13 100m (12.71).

The event also saw standout performances from Shannon Cox of Mason Hall, who won the girls Under-13 400m, and Kereem Moses of Lambeau Alliance, who secured the sprint double in the same category.

The winning streak continued with Angel Davidson of Mason Hall taking the girls Under-18 400m title and Jayden Phillips of Zenith clinching the boys Under-18 100m title.

The event drew praise from Master of ceremonies Merere Gonzales, who commended the incentives and innovations showcased at the meet, stating that Mason Hall had raised the bar for athletic club sports in Trinidad and Tobago.

Entertainment for the day was provided by Rhythmic Vibrations Dance Company and youth pannist Jaden Phillip. Major sponsors included the Tobago House of Assembly, Sebro’s Plumbing Services, Eteck, Dayne Phillips Plumbing Services, Area Representative Nathisha Charles-Pantin, Horace Nelson Transport Equipment Rental, and Vordell’s Supermarket.
