A man in Santa Cruz has been sentenced to serve the remaining three years of his 19-year sentence after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting his two nieces in 2015. The man, who was previously facing a murder charge, was sentenced by Justice Gillian Scotland on July 12. He faced charges including sexual touching of a minor, exposing a child to pornography, and sexual penetration of a child. Due to his guilty plea and time served in prison, he will now only serve three more years.

The disturbing incident took place when the two girls, ages seven and eight, were visiting their grandmother’s home. The man lured them into his bedroom under false pretenses, showing them a pornographic video on his phone. He then proceeded to sexually assault them, causing one of the girls to beg him to stop. Additionally, he coerced the girls into performing sexual acts on him, threatening them with violence if they spoke up.

Thankfully, the girls’ great-aunt became suspicious after overhearing a conversation and took the girls to the Santa Cruz Police Station. One of the girls underwent a medical examination, leading to the man being charged. WPC John-Isaac of the North Eastern Child Protection Unit, Morvant Police Station, played a crucial role in handling the case.

During the legal proceedings, Rebecca Trim-Wright served as the prosecutor while Arden Williams represented the man. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting children and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
