A Maraval man is set to face the Master of the High Court on July 18 after being accused of the murder of Che Mendez and the injuring of another man. Givanni Dennie, 26, hailing from Saddle Road, has been charged with these serious offences following advice from Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Joan Honore-Paul.

On July 3, tragedy struck as Mendez, a 42-year-old employee of Massy Distribution, along with an unidentified security guard, were delivering cigarettes in St Ann’s. It was around 11:45 am when they were accosted by three armed individuals. The perpetrators bound their hands, forced them into the vehicle, and took them to River Road in Fondes Amandes, where they callously shot both men and drove off with the truck filled with cigarettes. Mendez tragically lost his life at the scene, while the security guard sustained injuries and had to be hospitalized.

Fortunately, police were able to locate the stolen truck a few hours later. A suspect was apprehended by the Maraval Police Station officers on July 10 in connection with the incident. PC Callendar of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations took charge and formally charged Dennie on July 17 in relation to these heinous crimes.
