LAND Marine Construction Services (LMCS) has firmly rejected claims by Paria Fuel Trading Company Ltd that the efforts to compensate the families of four divers who tragically lost their lives at the Pointe-a-Pierre facility are being frustrated by LMCS.
Back on February 25, 2022, tragedy struck as Rishi Nagassar, Kazim Ali Jr, Fyzal Kurban, Yusuf Henry, and Christopher Boodram were conducting maintenance work on a 30-inch underwater pipeline owned by Paria when they were tragically sucked into it. Only Boodram survived, and it’s essential to note that all the divers were employed by LMCS.
Responding to Paria’s accusations, LMCS engaged their attorney Dinesh Rambally to issue a statement on July 30. Rambally emphasized that LMCS firmly believes Paria could quickly and fairly resolve all issues related to the accident by accepting full responsibility. This, in turn, would pave the way for proper compensation for all those affected by the unfortunate incident.
Rambally implied that structured interim payments could be made accessible to Boodram and the families of the deceased divers for damages, psychiatric or medical care, expert reports, and legal costs once Paria acknowledges its responsibilities. It’s evident that LMCS perceives Paria’s statement as a mere attempt to shirk accountability by failing to address their legal obligation.
Notwithstanding, LMCS has expressed their intent to seek clarification from Paria’s legal representatives regarding specific communications between the two companies concerning this matter. Despite the provocative nature of Paria’s claims, LMCS has chosen to withhold further comments in the hopes of fostering a collaborative environment where all parties work in the best interests of the surviving diver and the families of those who lost their lives.
