In an unexpected twist of events, Senator Lindsey Graham’s 2016 social media post criticizing then-candidate Donald Trump is still live and kicking simply because the senator was unaware it was still online.
Back in May 2016, as Trump was making waves on the campaign trail, Graham boldly proclaimed, “If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed…. and we will deserve it.” This candid warning from the senator was just one of many denouncements from GOP lawmakers at the time.
Fast forward to Trump’s surprising victory in the 2016 presidential election, and Graham did a complete 180, becoming one of the former president’s staunchest allies—although his loyalty did waver slightly in the aftermath of the Capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021.
Recently, during the heated presidential debate between Joe Biden and Trump, law professor Jennifer Taub took Graham to task for leaving the anti-Trump post up on his social media. In a video shared online, Taub asked Graham directly why he hadn’t taken down the tweet. Graham’s response? A nonchalant, “I don’t know…I didn’t know I didn’t take it down.”
The exchange was captured and shared on X (formerly Twitter) for all to see. Taub’s bold move in confronting Graham about the lingering post has certainly sparked interest and left many wondering: what will Senator Graham do next? Stay tuned.
