Minister of Trade Paula Gopee-Scoon, Jamaican business mogul Joseph Matalon, and Republic Bank executive Karen Yip Chuck are set to feature on a panel for the filming of Planting Seeds, a TV series where local entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to investors in hopes of securing funding and mentorship.
The filming for the latest season of Planting Seeds is scheduled to kick off with the first panel on July 20. A total of 13 episodes will be filmed, some in Trinidad and Tobago and others in Jamaica, where National Commercial Bank (NCB) executive chairman Michael Lee Chin will also join the panel.
Known as Jamaica’s richest man, Joseph Matalon boasts an estimated net worth of US$3.6 billion. He serves as the chairman of the ICD Group, a prominent investment holding firm engaged in various industries such as construction, distribution, e-commerce, insurance, and outsourcing. With over 20 years of experience in finance, investment, and banking, Matalon’s expertise is highly valued.
Planting Seeds was launched in 2016 with the goal of shining a light on Trinidad and Tobago entrepreneurship. The series, which introduced its first integrated business-to-customer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) platform in 2020, provides valuable resources to entrepreneurs, including business plan training, equity funding opportunities, legal assistance, and B2B and B2C solutions.
“Planting Seeds has been committed to fostering a thriving ecosystem for entrepreneurs since its inception,” the statement noted. The series actively collaborates with the government on various initiatives to support entrepreneurs and enhance the entrepreneurial landscape in the region.
