Immigration authorities detain 5 Venezuelans in sweep

Five Venezuelans were recently detained on suspicion of being in the country illegally, following an intelligence-led exercise by officers of the CID/Criminal Record Office’s Immigration Investigative Unit, South. The arrests, which took place from 10 am to 1.45 pm on July 4, resulted in the apprehension of four women and one man, all aged between 19 and 42, who were subsequently handed over to Immigration Division personnel for further investigation.

Aside from these arrests, various divisions also saw successful anti-crime efforts yielding significant results. In the Tobago Division, a male suspect was found in possession of 1.5 kgs of marijuana in Signal Hill on July 5.

Moreover, the Western Division’s Special Patrol Unit and Carenage police discovered a hidden revolver under bushes during an exercise in the Carenage district on July 5.

Meanwhile, Southern Task Force officers intercepted a Nissan Tiida in California on July 4, uncovering a loaded pistol with a revolver and five rounds of ammunition inside the vehicle. The driver, a 28-year-old from Arima, was promptly arrested in connection with the incident.

In another operation dubbed Operation Safe Streets in Penal and Oropouche, South Western Division officers executed a search warrant at the home of a male suspect in Penal. This search revealed ten packets of marijuana and a camouflage uniform, leading to the arrest of a 38-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman.
