PowerGen Penal’s under-19 team showcased their cricketing prowess with a thrilling five-run victory over St Leonard’s Boys’ School at the Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Tournament in Bridgetown, Barbados. This win marked their second consecutive victory in the tournament, thanks to Levi Ghanny’s outstanding all-round performance.

Despite a shaky start with early wickets falling, PowerGen managed to post a competitive total of 210 for nine, largely due to Ghanny’s brilliant knock of 86. Ghanny’s partnership with Raoul Goolie and Lucas Orosco provided the much-needed stability to PowerGen’s innings, although they stumbled in the final overs losing wickets. St Leonard’s bowler, Amar Sawh, impressed with figures of two for 15.

While chasing, St Leonard’s were on track until Ghanny spun his magic with the ball, claiming five key wickets to turn the game in PowerGen’s favor. Jaden Chase’s valiant effort almost steered St Leonard’s to victory, but PowerGen skipper Nikhel Ramtahal had the final say with a crucial wicket off the first ball of the last over, securing the win for his team.

PowerGen’s triumph follows their earlier victory against Alleyne School and puts them in a strong position in the tournament which features 18 teams from various countries. With such a thrilling contest on display, cricket enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting more exciting matches in the Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Tournament.
