Samsung’s latest Galaxy Watch releases have made a surprising change – they no longer support the convenient feature of wirelessly charging your watch with your phone. This tech-savvy feature has been a staple for Samsung’s smartwatches since the early days, allowing users to utilize “Wireless PowerShare” to quickly juice up their Galaxy Watch on the go. However, this feature is now a thing of the past.
According to a recent tweet by @JordyV27 and a confirmation on a Samsung support page (shoutout to SamMobile for the scoop), it has been revealed that the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra no longer support wireless charging from your smartphone. The reason? Samsung points to the upgraded health sensors on these new models, which led to a change in the glass shape at the bottom of the watch, making wireless charging incompatible.
In a nutshell, the new sensor design required altering the back glass shape, resulting in a larger gap between the internal wireless charging coil and the wireless charger. As a result, the Wireless PowerShare feature is no longer supported. This change also impacts older chargers, with Samsung emphasizing that the charger specifically designed for the Galaxy Watch 7 and Ultra is the only one that will charge these models efficiently.
If you’re eyeing the Galaxy Watch 7 or Galaxy Watch Ultra, keep in mind that pre-orders are ongoing with shipments expected later this month. And with this change in charging capabilities, you might want to snag the latest charger to ensure a speedy and efficient power-up for your new smartwatch.
