After making landfall in the southeast Caribbean, Hurricane Beryl has tragically claimed the lives of at least four individuals. Grenadian Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell confirmed the devastating news during a press conference in the capital of St George’s. The powerful storm, with winds exceeding 140 mph, wreaked havoc on Grenada and its sister islands, resulting in three known fatalities. Mitchell revealed that two deaths occurred on Carriacou and one on the mainland in Grenada. Additionally, St Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves reported one fatality on the Grenadine island of Bequia.

Currently categorized as a menacing Category 5 storm, Hurricane Beryl is projected to move dangerously close to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. A hurricane warning is in place for Jamaica, while a hurricane watch is issued for Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Haiti’s entire southern coast. Although Beryl is anticipated to weaken in the coming hours, it is expected to maintain major hurricane strength as it passes near Jamaica on July 3, the Cayman Islands on July 4, and Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula on July 5, according to the US National Hurricane Center.
