Amidst the aftermath of a tumultuous storm that wreaked havoc overnight, the diligent efforts of Nebraska Wesleyan employees Alex Mueller and Andrew Britain were captured as they loaded fallen branches into a cart on the university campus. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northern Lancaster County, including areas of north Lincoln, with potential wind gusts of 60 mph and quarter-sized hail.

The storm left a trail of destruction, dumping more than 3 inches of rain and causing significant flooding in multiple areas throughout Lincoln. A flood warning was in effect until 2:30 p.m., with radar and ground observations indicating 3-7 inches of rainfall. Roads were flooded, creeks and rivers were rising, and another round of strong thunderstorms was anticipated.

Reports of heavy flooding, cars stuck in floodwaters, and power outages emerged as emergency responders sprang into action. From toppled trees to damaged cars and twisted streetlights, the storm’s impact was evident across the city.

As the city braced for potential tornadoes and continued cleanup efforts, the tireless work of local residents and employees showcased a community resilient in the face of natural disasters. Stay tuned for more updates as this developing story unfolds on JournalStar.com.
