The Health Ministry has sadly reported another death from dengue fever, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed deaths to five. Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh delivered this update in a voice note released by the ministry, emphasizing the ongoing collaborative efforts of state agencies to reduce the mosquito population.
According to the ministry’s epidemiological update on July 24, there have been 450 laboratory-confirmed cases of dengue fever. Deyalsingh stressed the importance of the public’s role in eliminating potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes by clearing all sources of standing water in their homes and properties.
He urged for continued cooperation in efforts to combat dengue, stating, “Let’s continue to work together to reduce the incidence of dengue.”
Prior updates indicated four previous deaths from dengue fever. Among them was the first victim, 65-year-old Sieunarine Mahadeo from Barrackpore, followed by a teenager whose identity was not disclosed. The third fatality was 16-year-old Quinton Gabriel from Siparia, who tragically passed away due to sickle-cell disease while being treated at Point Fortin Hospital.
Details regarding the fourth and fifth deaths have not been disclosed by the ministry.
