England put on a dominant performance in the third and final Test against West Indies, securing a comfortable ten-wicket victory at Edgbaston, Birmingham on July 28. Led by the remarkable performance of Mark Wood who claimed five wickets for 40 runs, the English bowlers tore through the Windies batting lineup.
With the West Indies setting a target of just 82 runs for victory, English skipper Ben Stokes took charge and put on a magnificent display of hitting. Stokes raced to an unbeaten 57 off just 28 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes in the process. His aggressive innings, including a disdainful pull shot to bring up the winning runs, sealed the victory and a series sweep for England.
Stokes achieved his fifty in just 24 balls, notching the fastest fifty by an Englishman in Test cricket. Partnered by Ben Duckett who scored 25 off 16 balls, the duo quickly reached the target set by the West Indies.
Earlier in the match, West Indies started the day on 33 for two and their hopes of a comeback were dashed by a superb bowling performance from Wood. Wood’s fiery pace and reverse swing led to the downfall of the West Indies batsmen as they were bowled out for 175.
With the series victory in the bag, England will enjoy their success as the West Indies turn their attention to hosting South Africa in a two-match Test series beginning on August 7.
