In a disappointing outcome, Trinidad and Tobago’s Dylan Carter finished last in the preliminary round of the men’s 100-metre freestyle event at the 2024 Paris Olympics on July 30. Swimming out of lane three, Carter struggled to keep up with the competition, clocking in at 49.35 seconds, well below his entry time of 48.16 seconds.
Despite coming into the event with high hopes as the first athlete to qualify for the Paris games, Carter fell short and placed 34th overall out of 79 swimmers. The heat was won by Spain’s Sergio de Celis Montalban, with Israel’s Tomer Frankel coming in second.
Carter, competing in his third Olympics, will look to redeem himself in the 50m freestyle event on August 1, hoping to put on a stronger performance in the pool. He is accompanied by Zuri Ferguson, the first-time Olympian who represented Trinidad and Tobago in the women’s 100m backstroke, finishing 27th overall.
