Trinidad and Tobago’s Olympic delegation is set to make history as they join over 10,000 athletes and officials in a unique outdoor Olympic opening ceremony in Paris. The delegation, consisting of 33 members, will sail down the River Seine along with 206 other delegations, starting from Pont d’Austerlitz at 12.30pm (TT time).

Notable members of the Trinidad and Tobago delegation include Michelle-Lee Ahye and Dylan Carter, who will serve as flag bearers for the opening ceremony. Ahye, a seasoned women’s sprinter, and Carter, an ace swimmer, are both experienced Olympians who bring leadership and inspiration to the team.

TT will be represented in three sports: athletics, cycling, and swimming, with 13 athletes in track and field, two in cycling, and two in swimming. The delegation’s journey to the Olympics is highlighted by the remarkable performances of athletes like Jereem Richards and Keshorn Walcott, with hopes of adding to the nation’s medal tally.

The TT Olympic Committee praised Ahye and Carter for their dedication and commitment to their sports and their country. The delegation’s participation in the historic outdoor opening ceremony will be a spectacle watched by millions around the world, with over a billion viewers expected to tune in.

TT’s track and field team recently concluded their Pre-Olympic camp in Mulhouse, while Richards and Walcott are expected to join the team in Paris to complete the nation’s contingent. Seventeen-year-old swimmer Zuri Ferguson will kick off TT’s Olympic campaign in the 100m backstroke preliminaries on July 29.

As the excitement builds for Trinidad and Tobago’s representation at the 2024 Summer Olympics, all eyes are on the delegation as they aim to make their mark on the world stage in Paris.
