A 37-year-old man from the Philippines, residing in San Fernando, found himself in hot water with the law after being arrested for driving north on the southbound lane of the Solomon Hochoy Highway near Gasparillo. This daring act took place in the early hours of July 24, leading to a dramatic police chase and subsequent crash of the vehicle. To make matters worse, the driver failed a breathalyser test, sealing his fate even further.
Southern Division police, along with officers from the Highway Patrol Unit in Debe, sprang into action after receiving a tip about the reckless driver of a white car. PCs Meah and Beharry swiftly located the vehicle and engaged in a pursuit that ended in a crash against a wire barrier.
Upon administering a breathalyser test, the driver’s fate was sealed, and he is slated to appear before a San Fernando magistrate to face the music. This man already has a laundry list of prior court matters, including possession of ammunition.
The operation was led by Snr Supt Soodeen and spearheaded by Sgts Reid and Bynoe, with the assistance of PCs Anderson and Roopan. The vehicle involved was impounded at the St. Margaret’s police station for further investigation, with PC Roopan at the helm of the case.
