In a tragic turn of events, a cigarette delivery driver lost his life on July 3rd in what seemed to be a robbery that spiraled out of control. Che Mendez, accompanied by an unnamed security guard, was carrying out their routine delivery duties in St Ann’s when disaster struck.

Reports suggest that two armed assailants accosted them around 11.45 am, tying their hands and coercing them into the delivery truck. The criminals then drove them to River Road in Fondes Amandes, St Ann’s, where they callously shot Mendez and the guard before fleeing with the truck brimming with cigarettes.

The scene was soon discovered by law enforcement officers, leading to the recovery of the stolen vehicle. Despite prompt action from the police, the tragic consequences of the botched robbery could not be reversed. Mendez succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the security guard sustained wounds and was swiftly transported to a medical facility for treatment.

As investigations unravel, authorities have tightened security around the area where the heinous crime took place. Residents, however, expressed frustration over restricted access to their homes, highlighting the disruption and fear caused by such criminal activities in their otherwise peaceful neighborhood.
