Tatil, Tatil Life, and the Diabetes Association of TT (DATT) are once again joining forces to host 36 students for the Sixth Form Summer Internship, marking the third consecutive year of the program.
Out of a pool of 700 applicants, these students were carefully selected to gain valuable medical experience and develop into well-rounded healthcare professionals, as stated in a media release.
The 2024 cohort has officially kicked off, with a lineup of engaging activities planned for the next seven weeks. Participants will delve into topics such as the biochemistry of diabetes, ethics in medical research, health promotion, nutrition, intervention strategies, and fundraising techniques. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to visit Guardian Media Ltd for advertising insights, receive an introduction to lab skills at UWI, and practice blood-sugar and blood-pressure testing.
According to marketing manager for Tatil and Tatil Life, Stephen Hamel-Smith, “This internship provides a unique platform for students to make a positive impact on various communities, including their own. Through engagement with different aspects of the healthcare system, participants will gain valuable experience that not only enhances their understanding of diabetes but also equips them with the skills to drive meaningful change.”
Upon completion of the program, students will be invited to join the DATT Youth Advocacy Arm, where they can advocate for positive behavior change among their peers, as highlighted in the release.
Congratulations have been extended to the aspiring medical professionals by Tatil, who eagerly anticipates sharing updates on their endeavors throughout the next two months.
