Dragon Age offers a myriad of customization options that will make any RPG enthusiast’s heart beat a little faster. From the character creator with its vast array of choices for hair, body type, and facial features for your playable character Rook, to the numerous armor options available, this game doesn’t skimp on personalization.

When it comes to gearing up your companions, they each have specific armor, ring, accessory, and weapon slots. Rook, on the other hand, has even more slots to fill, including a helmet, two weapon slots, a belt, an amulet slot, and two ring slots. Yes, even the belt plays a crucial role in Rook’s kit, determining the potency of their healing potions and possibly granting additional effects like momentary invulnerability. Who knew a belt could be so important in a warrior’s arsenal?

But the customization doesn’t stop there. Game director Corinne Busche reveals that aspirational armors won’t come into play for Rook until the later stages of the game. You can also preview Rook’s starting gear and casual wear during character creation, giving you a glimpse into their different looks throughout the Veilguard journey.

And let’s not forget about the transmogrification system, affectionately known as “transmog.” This feature allows you to transfer the stats of a new piece of armor onto your favorite gear, so you can stay stylish without sacrificing power. Not only can Rook benefit from this system, but your companions can as well, ensuring everyone looks their best while battling to save Thedas.

During my visit to BioWare’s Edmonton office for Game Informer cover story, I witnessed the vast array of armor waiting to be collected throughout Arlathan Forest and beyond. Some pieces were impressive, while others didn’t quite suit my tastes, but that’s all part of the RPG experience. Knowing that a robust transmog system exists in Veilguard gives me peace of mind that my characters will always look their best while embarking on their epic adventures.
