Singer Clarice Beeput discovered her love for classical music after hearing Giacomo Puccini’s soprano aria O Mio Babbino Caro by chance. Now, after many achievements, she will be hosting An Evening of Sacred Classics, Hymns and Spirituals at the Church of Scotland in Port of Spain on July 27.
Beeput has a passion for the classics and aims to raise funds through this event to continue her undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She started singing at a young age, inspired by a schoolmate singing Beyonce’s “Halo” at her school’s talent time.
Despite initially studying sciences and considering a career in orthodontics or medicine, Beeput’s love for music continued to grow. She defied her parents and school to sit for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) in music, where she placed first in the region in 2019.
With a growing list of accolades, including multiple wins at the biennial Music Festival and the 2018 American Protégé International Vocal Competition, Beeput has been receiving classical training for the past seven years.
Her upcoming show aims to raise $40,000 and fulfill her promise to support herself and her family. Produced by the Liberty Chorale, the event will feature performances of Italian composer Lucio Vivaldi’s Gloria. Beeput wants to introduce more Trinidadians to classical music, hoping to deepen their appreciation for the genre.
Her ultimate goal is to uplift her audience and spread happiness through her music.
