Chief Secretary Farley Augustine has been called to action in response to the recent surge in gun-related crimes threatening the tranquility of Tobago. The National Security Council has summoned Augustine to a crucial meeting set to take place on July 9 at the Office of the Prime Minister, Central Administrative Services in Scarborough.
The island was left reeling after a tragic triple murder in Black Rock on July 8, which has marked a grim milestone in Tobago’s history with the murder toll now standing at 15, exceeding last year’s total of 14.
Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley took to Facebook on July 8 to announce Augustine’s attendance at the meeting, following an invitation extended on July 5. Augustine promptly made his way to Tobago on July 6, demonstrating a swift response to the pressing issue at hand.
Joining forces with Minister of National Security Fitzgerald Hinds and top police officials, the meeting aims to address and strategize against the spike in violent crimes plaguing the island. The collaborative effort underscores the government’s commitment to restoring law and order in Tobago, ensuring the safety and security of residents and visitors alike.
