The 47th Regular Meeting of the conference of heads of government of Caricom is quickly approaching, set to take place from July 28-30 in the picturesque St George’s, Grenada. This year holds special significance as Grenada celebrates its 50th anniversary of independence, adding an extra layer of importance to the gathering.

On July 11, the Caricom secretariat officially announced Grenada as the host country for the conference, marking 35 years since the historic signing of the Grand Anse Declaration. This pivotal agreement paved the way for Caricom’s evolution towards a single market and economy among other crucial matters.

The opening ceremony on July 28 promises to be a momentous occasion, featuring speeches from key figures such as Caricom Secretary-General, Dr Carla Barnett, outgoing chairman Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, incoming chairman Dickon Mitchell, and the induction of Curacao as an associate member. For those unable to attend in person, the opening ceremony will be live-streamed on Caricom’s social media channels.

Business sessions are scheduled for July 29 and 30 at the elegant Radisson Grenada Beach Resort. An iconic photo opportunity with the heads of government is planned for July 29, with the conference wrapping up in a hybrid format at the same venue with a closing press conference. Stay tuned for updates on the outcomes of crucial discussions and decisions made during this important gathering.
