DIGICEL has put its contingency plans into action as Hurricane Beryl closes in on Tobago, ensuring that customers can easily reach out to the Tobago Emergency Management Authority’s (TEMA) hotline without the need for credit or a plan.

The telecommunications company has announced the temporary closure of all retail stores on July 1 in preparation for the impending storm.

In a proactive move, DIGICEL has made TEMA’s emergency numbers, 866-4211 and 226-8485, “zero-rated” to facilitate communication during the crisis.

Assuring the public of its readiness, DIGICEL stated, “All cell sites across the island are in optimal condition and prepared for operation.” Additionally, power generator contractors are on standby in both Trinidad and Tobago, with civil engineering crews activated on the ground in Tobago.

Quoting Digicel TT CEO Abraham Smith, he emphasized the company’s priority to ensure the safety of citizens in the face of the impending natural disaster.

Smith further advised, “We urge everyone to take the necessary precautions to secure their homes, and ensure their phones are charged and topped-up for communication with loved ones during the storm.”

To aid in post-hurricane efforts, DIGICEL has mobilized technical teams and field engineers across the island to facilitate a speedy recovery process once Hurricane Beryl passes.
