Prepare to be amazed, Mortal Kombat fans! After nearly three decades, NetherRealm has unveiled the long-awaited return of animalities for Mortal Kombat 1.

Animalities, which first appeared in 1995’s Mortal Kombat 3, allow the victorious character to transform into an animal before savagely tearing their opponent to shreds in classic gory Mortal Kombat fashion.

At the San Diego Comic-Con 2024 panel, IGN had the opportunity to witness Mortal Kombat 1’s animalities in action with tantalizing teaser footage. Rain, for instance, morphs into a puffer fish that explodes from within his foe.

In an exciting new trailer, viewers were treated to a glimpse of even more animalities, including hyenas, hippos, gorillas, t-rex skeletons, and, of course, Scorpion becoming a scorpion. Mileena even transforms into a fierce praying mantis.

This big reveal coincided with the announcement of Mortal Kombat 1’s second year of content and the Khaos Reigns DLC, which includes six new DLC characters, such as Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, Conan the Barbarian, and the T-1000.

Animalities will be accessible to all playable fighters and will be unleashed alongside the Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns release on September 24. As an added bonus, all Mortal Kombat 1 owners will receive a free MK 95 Scorpion character skin inspired by the classic 1995 film.
