Hurricane Beryl is no joke, folks. That’s right, it’s been upgraded to a Category 1 storm and is on track to become a major hurricane – that means Category 3 or higher, with winds of at least 111 mph. Yikes!
Barbados is on high alert as a hurricane warning has been issued, while other islands in the southeast Caribbean are under a watch. Batten down the hatches, people!
Believe it or not, it’s been over fifty years since a hurricane has made an appearance before July 4th in the Atlantic basin. Michael Lowry, a hurricane expert, is just as surprised as we are at how quickly Beryl went from a tropical depression to a full-blown hurricane. Talk about rapid intensification!
But wait, there’s more – Beryl is only the second hurricane to form east of the Caribbean in June. The other instance was way back in 1933. We’re breaking records left and right here, folks!
Let’s not forget that this is just the beginning of what’s predicted to be a busy hurricane season. Tropical Storm Alberto wreaked havoc just last week, causing flooding and sadly, some fatalities in southern Texas and northeastern Mexico. Stay safe out there, everyone!
