Police in the Southern Division successfully recovered a car that was stolen at gunpoint from a 74-year-old pensioner in Williamsville on July 24. The stolen vehicle, a red Toyota Corolla, was found abandoned on the roadside in Barrackpore the following day.

The discovery was made during an anti-crime exercise involving officers from the St Mary’s police post, and the Moruga and Barrackpore police stations. Leading the charge was Sgt Sooknanan, who spearheaded efforts to locate the stolen car.

The incident unfolded when the pensioner returned home to Guaracara Tabaquite Road around 2.20 pm on July 24. As he exited the vehicle to open his front gate, a gunman approached him and forcibly removed him from the driver’s seat. The thief then made a quick getaway in the stolen car while the victim sought help from his relatives and neighbors.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the car theft, but investigations are ongoing. Stay tuned for updates as authorities work towards resolving this alarming incident.
