Fisherfolk and other stakeholders affected by the February 7 oil spill in Tobago must submit their claim forms to the Division of Food Security, Natural Resources, the Environment and Sustainable Development by August 5.
Administered by the Oil Spill Relief Committee (OSRC) led by Allan Stewart, the director of the Tobago Emergency Management Agency, the process aims to provide relief to those impacted by the environmental disaster.
Established under executive council minute 277 dated May 22, the OSRC is conducting damage assessments and needs analysis to understand the extent of the damage and the requirements of affected parties.
The oil spill originated from the overturned barge, Gulfstream, off the coast of Cove.
To claim relief, individuals must submit documentation including descriptions or photographs of the damaged items, proof of ownership, value at the time of loss, insurance certificates, proof of income, and more.
Claim forms can be obtained from the Department of Marine Resources and Fisheries or the Tobago Emergency Management Agency’s office. Make sure to provide all necessary documentation before the deadline on August 5 to receive assistance.
