Nine Venezuelans were recently apprehended in Trinidad and Tobago for illegally entering the country. According to a source, officers conducted a roadblock on July 19 in the Shirvan Road district between 4 and 8 am, leading to the arrest of seven males aged between 20 and 41, and two 22-year-old women who had entered the country unlawfully.

The operation was strategically managed by ACP Collis Hazel and Snr Supt Rodhill Kirk, coordinated by ASP Barath (Area West), and led by Insp Bacchus. Multiple units including IATF, Task Force, K9 Unit, Divisional CID, SIU Department, Immigration, and personnel from the Shirvan Road Police Station were involved in the operation.

THA Chief Secretary Farley Augustine mentioned that the nine individuals were allegedly part of a ring that had previously been deported from Trinidad but managed to return to the country through Tobago shortly after. Augustine highlighted efforts to address the issue of open borders in Tobago, ensuring that law enforcement has the necessary resources for patrols and managing border security.

While addressing a recent shooting incident in the Whim community that is currently under investigation, Augustine emphasized that tackling crime on the island requires a radical and innovative approach due to the complex nature of the situation. The ongoing efforts are aimed at combatting crime effectively, recognizing the need for a significant and unprecedented response to address the challenges at hand.
