The recent Hosay observance in Trinidad is a centuries-old tradition that holds deep cultural significance for many. However, this year’s event was marred by a heavy police presence that left many questioning the motives behind it.

Despite the absence of the aggressive herding of participants off the streets seen in previous years, the overwhelming number of police vehicles and officers raised eyebrows. The procession, intended to be a solemn event, was disrupted by the constant weaving in and out of police cars, causing concern among attendees.

The lack of explanation for this heightened police presence left many wondering if there was a hidden agenda behind it. Was it simply a show of authority, or was there a legitimate reason for such an intense police presence during the Hosay observances?

As a lifelong observer of the event, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease throughout the day. The streets, which should have felt sacred during this important cultural celebration, instead felt crowded and intrusive due to the excessive police activity.

Ultimately, the question remains: why did the police feel the need for such a heavy presence at this year’s Hosay observance? Will we ever know the true reason behind it, or was it simply an unfortunate misunderstanding that marred an otherwise meaningful event? Only time will tell.
