Performing Arts Industry Grieves the Loss of Musical Icon Lindyann Bodden-Ritch

Renowned musician and music educator Ruth Lindyann Bodden-Ritch passed away on July 16 at the age of 82, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in the performing arts community. Lindyann, as she was fondly known, was celebrated for her exceptional skills as a pianist and her dedication to achieving the highest standards in music.

Throughout her career, Lindyann studied music at prestigious institutions such as The Royal Academy of Music, University of London, Associated Board of The Royal Schools of Music, and the University of Miami School of Music. She served as a senior music instructor at the University of TT (UTT) and taught music at various schools in Trinidad and Tobago and England.

Lindyann also made significant contributions to the local music scene as an accompanist for choirs and soloists, as well as for ballet performances at the TT Music Festival and Caribbean School of Dancing. Her impact on the music community was profound, as noted by designer Gillian Bishop, who described her as a “brilliant musician.”

Carl Anthony Hines, former musical director at the Lydians, shared insights into Lindyann’s character, highlighting her no-nonsense approach and unwavering commitment to fostering talent. Singer and former general manager at the Lydians, Garnet Allen, praised Lindyann for her dedication to excellence and her ability to bring out the best in others.

Pianist Enrique Ali and veteran actor Theresa Hope also paid tribute to Lindyann, recognizing her influence and impact on multiple generations of musicians. Lindyann’s funeral is set to take place on July 24 at the All Saints Church in Port of Spain, followed by her burial at the Woodbrook Cemetery.

The music community in Trinidad and Tobago has lost a true luminary in Lindyann Bodden-Ritch, whose passion for music and commitment to excellence will be remembered for years to come.
