Zahara Anthony and Micah Alexander shine in 9-10 age group swimming

ZAHARA Anthony and Micah Alexander stole the show at the National Short Course Age Group Swimming Championships held at the National Aquatic Centre in Balmain, Couva. These talented swimmers dominated their age group category by excelling in all four strokes – freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke, and backstroke.

In the final session of the meet, Anthony from Marlins showcased her skills by winning the girls’ 200m individual medley in 2:47.33 and then taking gold in the girls’ 50m freestyle with a time of 30.35. Not to be outdone, Alexander from Eagles Aquatics also claimed victory in the 200m IM and 50m freestyle events, clocking in at 2:48.30 and 31.09, respectively.

Other notable swimmers who shined at the championships include Nikoli Blackman, Zara Persico, Andrew Giddings, and Kyle Leera, who all secured multiple gold medals in their respective age groups. Blackman impressed in the boys’ 18-and-over category with wins in the 100m butterfly (53.86) and 50m freestyle (21.76) events, while Persico, Giddings, and Leera also showed their prowess in their races.

The weekend saw many swimmers achieve Goodwill A and B standard times, setting the stage for the upcoming Goodwill Games later this year. The age group winners were awarded in various categories, with standout performances from swimmers like Marena Martinez, Aimee Le Blanc, Keryn Burke, and Zoe Anthony among others.

Overall, the National Short Course Age Group Swimming Championships proved to be a thrilling and successful event, showcasing the incredible talent and dedication of young swimmers in Trinidad and Tobago.
