Renowned screenwriter David Loughery, known for his work on action-packed films like Dreamscape, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, and Passenger 57, has sadly passed away at the age of 71. His friend Fred Rappaport confirmed that Loughery lost his battle with skin cancer in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Loughery’s career was filled with stellar collaborations, including projects with director Joseph Ruben on films like Dreamscape, The Good Son, Money Train, and Blindsided. His talent and creativity shone brightly in each endeavor.
A native of Oak Park, Illinois, Loughery pursued his passion for storytelling after graduating from Ball State University and earning his master’s degree from the University of Iowa. He made his mark in Hollywood with his screenplay for Dreamscape and later went on to work on Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Flashback, Passenger 57, and The Three Musketeers.
In addition to his screenwriting accomplishments, Loughery also delved into producing, contributing to films like Lakeview Terrace, Obsessed, The Intruder, Fatale, and Shattered.
He is survived by his wife Mel, mother Joan, and siblings William and Amy. David Loughery’s legacy will undoubtedly live on through his impactful contributions to the entertainment industry.
