NAPARIMA MP Rodney Charles is calling on the police to take action in solving the murder of his cousin, TTRideShare driver Shakeem Charles, as well as the other 15 individuals killed over the weekend. In a statement released on July 15, the opposition MP expressed his dismay at the increasing violence in Trinidad and Tobago, warning that every family in the country would soon be affected if decisive measures were not taken.

Charles criticized the lack of progress in the investigation into Shakeem’s murder, questioning why various investigative techniques, such as tracking GPS, reviewing CCTV footage, and obtaining warrants, had not yet been utilized. He emphasized the need for concrete crime-fighting strategies and modern forensic technology to ensure the safety of citizens.

Highlighting the disparity between the number of police officers in Trinidad and Tobago compared to other countries like Toronto, Charles stressed the urgent need for more effective law enforcement measures. He urged the police leadership to prioritize the use of available resources to combat crime and protect the community.

Emphasizing the pressing nature of the situation, Charles called on the police to seek international assistance if necessary to address the escalating violence. He underscored the impact of crime on families, communities, and the nation as a whole, urging swift action to prevent further tragedies.

Shakeem Charles, whose body was discovered in Penal after he went missing following a ride-sharing trip, has become a symbol of the growing concerns around public safety in Trinidad and Tobago. As the nation grapples with rising crime rates, calls for justice and security measures are growing louder.
