TIDAL Wave Aquatics’ Jahmia Harley and Marlins’ Marena Martinez made waves at the National Age Group Short Course Championships with their record-breaking performances. Harley set a new national short course record in the 100m backstroke, finishing in a speedy 1:03.21 to claim victory. Later on, she also won the 50m backstroke time trial, clocking in at 29.18s.
Martinez, just twelve years old, showcased her talent by shattering the previous record in the 1500m freestyle with a time of 18:55.22. In the 15-17 boys’ 50m breaststroke, all top five finishers achieved Goodwill Swim Meet A qualifying times, with Anpherne Bernard taking the top spot.
Other notable performances included Blue Dolphins’ Asia-Marie Pouchet, Tidal Wave’s Alyssa Reid, and Point Fortin Aqua Darts’ Keimayah Rouse, who all surpassed the Goodwill A standards in their respective events. RWB’s Kyle Leera also secured a Goodwill qualification in the 11-12 boys’ 50m backstroke.
To cap off the event, Atlantis’ Riquelio Joseph emerged victorious in the 18 and over boys’ 200m individual medley, outpacing his competition to claim the gold.
