West Indies suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of England inside three days in the first Test at Lord’s on July 12. The maroon team collapsed in both innings, resulting in an innings and 114 run loss.

In the first innings, the West Indies were bowled out for a meager 121 runs, prompting England to respond with a strong total of 371. The visitors resumed day three at 79/6 in the second innings, still trailing by 171 runs.

Despite a late cameo from Gudakesh Motie, who remained unbeaten on 31, the West Indies batsmen failed to put up a fight against a dominant England bowling attack. Debutant Gus Atkinson was the star with the ball, finishing with match figures of 12/106.

The defeat also marked the end of an era as legendary fast bowler James Anderson announced his retirement from the England team after claiming a remarkable 704 Test wickets in his career.

The series now moves to Nottingham for the second Test starting from July 18th, followed by the final Test in Birmingham from July 26th. England will look to continue their winning momentum, while the West Indies will be eager to bounce back from this heavy defeat.

Summarised Scores:

WEST INDIES 121 (Gus Atkinson 7/45) and 136 (Gus Atkinson 5/61, James Anderson 3/32) vs ENGLAND 371. England won by an innings and 114 runs.
