In a surprising turn of events, the highly anticipated second chapter of Kevin Costner’s Western saga, “Horizon: An American Saga,” has been pulled from its scheduled August release date after the first film failed to make a splash at the box office.
New Line Cinema made the announcement on Wednesday, revealing that “Horizon: Chapter 2” will not be hitting theaters on August 16 as originally planned. The decision to delay the release was made in order to give audiences more time to discover the first installment of the epic tale.
With the fate of “Chapter 2” now hanging in the balance, fans will have to keep an eye on the theatrical calendar for updates. In the meantime, the first film, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May, is set to premiere on premium on-demand on July 16, with no streaming date on Max confirmed yet.
Costner, who directed, co-wrote, and starred in the films, poured his heart and soul into the project that had been in the making for over 30 years. Despite the setback, Costner remains optimistic about the future of “Horizon” and is already working on a third installment, with plans for a total of four movies in the series.
In an interview earlier this year, Costner hinted at the possibility of “Horizon” branching out into a television series, acknowledging the changing landscape of entertainment consumption. “They’re going to break this up into a hundred pieces, you know what I mean? After four of these, they’re going to have 13, 14 hours of film and they’re going to turn into 25 hours of TV,” Costner shared.
