Tragic news has rocked the entertainment industry as former child star Benji Gregory, known for his role as Brian Tanner on the hit show ALF in the ’80s, has passed away at the age of 46. Reports indicate that Benji was found deceased in his car at a bank parking lot in Peoria, Arizona, with the cause of death still under investigation.
Benji’s sister, Rebecca, revealed to TMZ that her brother, who battled depression, bipolar disorder, and a severe sleep disorder, likely succumbed to vehicular heatstroke after falling asleep in his car during the blistering summer heat. Tragically, Benji’s loyal service dog, Hans, also perished in the incident.
In remembrance of Benji, Rebecca has suggested that donations be made to The Actors Equity Foundation or the ASPCA in his honor. Despite stepping away from the spotlight after his time on ALF, where he portrayed the beloved middle child in a family cohabiting with an extraterrestrial visitor, Benji’s impact on the industry and fans alike will not be forgotten.
From his early appearances on The A-Team, Punky Brewster, and The Twilight Zone to his memorable stint on ALF, Benji’s talent and dedication to his craft shone through. Following his time on the small screen, Benji made a brave transition into the U.S. Navy, receiving an honorable medical discharge in 2005.
As we reflect on Benji’s life and career, let us remember the joy and laughter he brought to audiences around the world. May he rest in peace, forever cherished in our hearts and memories.
