Residents of Upper Santa Cruz mourned the loss of Benji Emmanuel, a 33-year-old man known for his commitment to steering youths away from a life of crime. The tragic incident unfolded on July 9 around 4 pm near Villa Cruz Sports Bar in Cantaro Village, Santa Cruz. Emmanuel was riding his bicycle when a car pulled up, an unidentified man emerged and fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene with two other men who sustained injuries.

Witnessing the aftermath, a community member praised Emmanuel’s generosity and willingness to assist those in need, recalling a time when he offered financial help without hesitation. Another resident shared Emmanuel’s efforts to organize a football competition as a means of engaging young members of the community and deterring criminal activities.

Emmanuel’s brother, present at the scene, reflected on his sibling’s character, emphasizing his humility and lack of involvement in illicit activities. Expressing acceptance amidst the chaos, he expressed concern for his grieving mother who was struggling to come to terms with the tragic loss.
