In 2019, Google Maps for Android introduced a helpful speedometer feature that displays your driving speed right on the screen. And now, iPhone users can rejoice because this handy tool is making its way to iOS and CarPlay, as confirmed by Google to TechCrunch.
The speedometer appears as a circle in the bottom-left corner when you’re navigating in a vehicle, changing colors if you exceed the speed limit. Google Maps is also now displaying speed limit indicators globally for the road you’re on.
To promote safe driving, Google reminds users that the speedometer is for informational purposes only, as external factors may affect its accuracy. If you want to customize your settings, there’s a shortcut to easily turn the speedometer on or off by tapping “Speed Limit” in Maps Settings > Navigation > Map display > Show speedometer.
The latest version of Google Maps for iOS, 6.123.0, includes this feature in a recent server-side update that has been gradually rolling out to users. Unfortunately, the speedometer is not yet available on Android Auto.
Stay tuned for more updates on Google Maps and its latest developments. Remember, safety always comes first on the road!
