Russian missiles struck cities across Ukraine, including Kyiv, where the main children’s cancer hospital was hit. The mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed that two adults were killed by the direct hit on the Okhmatdyt hospital.

Rescue operations are still ongoing, with hundreds of workers and volunteers racing to save patients and staff trapped under the rubble. The capital city of Kyiv bore the brunt of the attacks, with 22 dead and 82 injured.

Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia had fired hypersonic Kinzhal missiles, showcasing the advanced capabilities of the Kremlin’s arsenal. The timing of these attacks coincides with a forthcoming summit in Washington, where Nato leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will discuss strengthening the alliance’s position towards Russia and bolstering Ukraine’s defenses.

Zelenskyy condemned Russia’s actions and called for accountability for the atrocities committed. The UN Security Council has convened an emergency meeting to address the situation, with the UN secretary-general strongly condemning the strikes.

The attacks were not limited to Kyiv, with casualties reported in multiple cities across Ukraine. Metinvest, the country’s largest mining company, suffered losses in a strike on a coal processing plant. The devastation is widespread, with reports of casualties in various regions.

The children’s hospital in Kyiv, described as one of the most significant in Europe, was severely damaged by the missile strike. President Zelenskyy has called for increased support from Western allies and accountability for Russia’s actions. The world must not remain silent in the face of such atrocities.

As the situation continues to unfold, Ukraine seeks international support to defend against further aggression. Nato leaders are expected to pledge substantial support for Ukraine in the coming days, amidst growing political challenges within member states.
