Hurricane Beryl made its mark on the southern Windward islands, causing havoc in several regions. As the storm approached, boats and yachts sought shelter in Trinidad and Tobago. Minister of Finance Colm Imbert assured that the government was ready to accommodate them, while Minister of Trade and Industry Paula Gopee-Scoon highlighted the goodwill gesture in waiving fees for boat and yacht owners.

The Marine Services Association of Trinidad and Tobago (MSATT) echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of supporting their customers during regional disasters. Over 160 boats and yachts found refuge in Trinidad and Tobago waters, seeking assistance and services from skilled craftsmen in the country.

Vietnamese boat owner Zi Vu and her partner faced challenges navigating their boat to safety, but were grateful for the assistance they received in Trinidad and Tobago. The influx of boats also prompted inspections of pets traveling with the vessels, ensuring that health requirements were met.

Despite some frustrations with the registration process, boat owners like Brent Warren and Timothy Steer expressed their appreciation for the support in Trinidad and Tobago. Plans for repairs and exploration of the islands are in store for many boaters, as the community comes together to weather the storm and support those in need.
